Upon purchasing the adjacent corner property to their existing shop, the father & son owners sought to expand and upgrade their business with a combined high-end showroom, office and shop.
ENR architects, as project architect with Topos Architects, Inc., designed 5,000sf, stair fabrication shop, warehouse, showroom, office & parking for San Carlos Stairs. Services included design schemes, renderings, CAD models, complete architectural, energy compliance, mechanical, electrical and landscape designs, cost analysis, material selections, consultant coordination, Planning Commission presentations, lot merger processing, and off-site improvement coordination.
The upper level office commands the facility with viewing windows overlooking the shop space and a full-width, curving balcony crowning the showroom. Natural light floods the interior through clerestory windows, tall exterior windows, storefront glazing and skylights. Operable windows welcome the plentiful Bay Area breeze. Additional sustainable features include thermal mass insulation, storm water retention reservoirs, landscaped drainage swales, and high efficiency glazing.
